Career options after BSc Biotechnology, other than MSc.

biotech

The most recommended career track after a BSc in Biotechnology is to pursue a MSc with specialization in one of the areas of biotechnology such as biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, microbiology, bioinformatics, food technology etc. I understand that sometimes students do not want to pursue their MSc. Unfortunately the job market after a BSc in biotechnology is not that lucrative. So what can a student do to enhance his/her profile ?

Here are a few options

Management Degree: Getting into a good MBA program is always an option for any graduate. There are a few MBA programs that offer specialization in the management aspects of the biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry. Students may consider those. But that’s not entirely necessary. You may also use the MBA to venture into Finance or HR or Marketing or Operations related roles in any industry.

Clinical Research/Data Analyst: While this may still be related to biotechnology, but taking up specialization in bioinformatics and learning few advanced statistical software can help you get on the data analyst side of the biotech industry.

Legal: You may need to do a LLB degree for this or a course on patent laws and eventually get into managing of patents and intellectual property aspects of the biotech industry.

Sales and Marketing: If you are an extrovert with a flair for sales and marketing, you could easily try for sales and marketing related jobs with a biotech company.
